As a British painter rooted in the landscapes and seascapes, Ben’s journey began in Peterborough in 1985. Born in 1985, Ben, spent most of his ‘civilian’ life there. A former member of the Army, Ben joined the 29 Commando Regiment at the young age of 16, serving as a Bombardier.
Throughout his service, he had the privilege of participating in various tours, including training in America with the US Marines. However, it was his three tours of Norway, focusing on Arctic Leadership training, that truly tested his abilities in extreme conditions. If Ben could lead in the Arctic, he believed he could lead anywhere. At the age of only 20, he was deployed as a Section Commander to Afghanistan, further demonstrating his exceptional skills.
Upon leaving the Army, Ben ventured into the trades and became a builder and carpenter. It was in February 2017, after a memorable hiking trip to the Lake District, that he had an unexpected encounter. Ben, an awe-inspiring landscape and seascape artist in the making, found himself standing in a local gallery, captivated by a painting he couldn't afford to purchase.
Inspired and determined, he decided to pick up a brush and attempt painting something himself. Little did he know that this would mark the beginning of his new career as a professional artist. Ben's pursuit of painting became all-consuming—rising at 4am to paint before work and continuing his artistic endeavours throughout the evening.
Nature and adventure serve as Ben's primary inspiration. His deep connection with the natural world, cultivated through wild camping, hiking, and paddle boarding, has shaped his artistic perspective. By spending countless hours observing how light interacts with different landscapes, Ben has honed his focus on capturing the essence of seascapes.
His aim is to convey the emotions and moods that can only be experienced firsthand, conveying a "you just had to be there" feeling through his remarkable artwork.
