Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a notable Scottish artist from Glasgow, was a significant figure in the Modern Style movement, a specific variant of Art Nouveau in Great Britain. Alongside his roles as an architect and designer, Mackintosh also delved into the realm of painting, marking a shift in his later years. One of his notable works, ‘Rhododendron Walberswick,’ showcased his expertise in producing flower studies, a genre he frequently explored. These captivating pieces were often collaborative efforts, involving his wife Margaret. Their joint efforts were signified by the initials of both artists, elegantly entwined at the bottom of the watercolour. Mackintosh's flower paintings, while stylised, maintained a remarkable accuracy, effectively capturing the intricate structure of the plants.
