Hailing from the vibrant city of Glasgow, Mackintosh played a vital role in shaping the artistic landscape of his time. The year 1900 marked a significant milestone in his career when he and his wife Margaret Macdonald received a prestigious commission to create designs for the Ladies Luncheon Room at Miss Cranston's Ingram Street Tea Room in Glasgow. Demonstrating his multifaceted talent, Mackintosh crafted a captivating masterpiece named 'The Wassail' - a stunning oil painting on gesso presented in a triptych format. In perfect harmony, Macdonald's own artwork, 'The May Queen', graced the room alongside Mackintosh's creation, creating an enchanting and immersive experience for visitors.
