Product description
The artist was inspired to create a series of twelve paintings, each dedicated to a specific month of the year, utilising subjects and colours that evoke personal associations with each month.
This particular painting holds a special significance as it is the first conceived but the final work in the series. December, a time when we relish the warmth of our homes and the comfort of being indoors, provided the perfect subject for this piece. The artist sought to capture the essence of that comforting feeling, drawing on scents like apple and cinnamon, which are also deeply associated with the month. Through carefully selected objects and colours, the painting brings to life the cozy, homely atmosphere of December.
At the centre of the composition is the aged brown jug, reminiscent of an old-fashioned hearthside setting. This object embodies the enduring nature of tradition and the comfort found in familiar items during the cold winter months. The apples, abundant and inviting, evoke the generosity of the holiday season, while the bowl and spoon symbolise nourishment and the joy of communal meals. The painting reflects the significance of sharing time, food, and warmth with loved ones, inviting the viewer to appreciate the beauty found in everyday moments, even during the chill of winter.
