Product description

All seed batches are tested for viability and are from fresh supply
Now you might think growing these beauties indoors would require some kind of massive heated pond in a Victorian conservatory, but if you pick your variety right, they will fit into relatively tiny spaces. Its button-sized flowers can continue for a good nine months of the year under ideal light conditions indoors in exchange for very little work, aside from the occasional water top up.
If you are growing your Water Lily Bonsai indoors, you can start it anytime, as long as you can maintain a water temperature of at least 20 degrees Celsius and provide at least 6 hours of sunlight.
First Steps
Place two of your seeds into a container with around 4″ of warm water. If you purchase your Water Lily Bonsai seeds in bulk, we don’t recommend adding any more than 3 seeds at a time.
Starting Your Water Lily Seeds
After around 3-7 days, your seeds will start swelling and cracking, and finally sending out a green stem. Whilst water lily seeds usually germinate at a very high rate, only 50% of those seeds will complete the germination process and create water lilies. The key is to keep your water clean and warm. You need to aim to change your water every 12 hours but once your seeds start to germinate, use filtered or bottled water due to the chemicals present in tap water. Get rid of any seeds that have not germinated within 10 days.
Planting Your Seeds
Once the stem of the water lily is around 4″ it is time to look at planting. If you choose to grow your seeds in a pot, do not use any soil in the bottom, instead use a nutrient rich fertilizer. The opening of the pot should be a diameter of at least 10″ and no more than 12″ deep. We suggest using aquarium gravel or shells as a medium in the base of your pots.
Place your seed with its 4″ stem on the bottom nestling it into the gravel, spacing your seeds as much as possible. Don’t put any more than 3 germinated seeds, per pot. Slowly fill your pot with filtered water, but don’t add any fertilizer at this time.
Time to Grow
Your water lilies will start to send stalks up to the surface of the water and in about two weeks form miniature lily pads on the surface of the water. Once the pads have started to appear on the water, it is time to start adding your fertilizer to the water. Mix your powdered fertilizer with warm filtered water being sure to follow the instructions on your chosen fertilizer. Once the pad has developed fully, you can remove about 1/4 of the water and replace with your fertilized water.
From here, you are going to add fertilized water once per week following the below schedule:
Week two replace 1/4 of the water in your bowl;
Week three replace 1/2 of the water in your lily bowl;
Week four replace all the water in your bowl with full strength fertilized water.
From this point on you will only put full strength fertilized water in your lily bowl and once per month replace 1/2 the water in your bowl with the fertilized water. As soon as you start seeing the white inner, stop there.
