Akoya pearls are saltwater pearls grown from Pinctada fucata oysters, initially cultivated in Japan. Since the 1920s, they have been a global symbol of beauty and elegance, highly coveted and steadily increasing in price.

This pendant necklace features yet another breathtakingly rare colour variant of Japanese Madama Akoya pearl—a mesmerising silver peacock-green gem that forms the heart of this original Japanese piece, sourced directly from the International Jewellery Exhibition in Japan. Over the past year, I was only able to acquire a small handful of such finished pieces, all carefully selected and purchased on site in Japan. Their rarity of tone and uniqueness of design have made them highly sought after among collectors and pearl enthusiasts alike.

Measuring approximately 8mm, this pearl sits at the larger end of the typical 6–9mm size range for Akoya pearls. It displays the signature cool-toned glow of the Madama series, with a rare and captivating blend of natural silver and peacock green. The resulting hue is truly one of a kind—so distinct that finding a perfectly matching pearl for earrings has proven impossible. Soft rainbow overtones appear to dance across the surface, revealing themselves subtly under different angles of light.
