I'm a mum and I created the first Tidy Books bookcase for my daughter back in 2004 in my violin workshop. Ever since, I’ve been designing book shelves and storage for kids which foster their sense of independence, because... Kids Know Best! My original bookcases create an environment for kids to pick and choose their own books and foster their love of books from an early age. THE ORIGINAL SINCE 2004
Since the first Tidy Books bookcase was created in 2004, all our products have to tick three boxes: they have to be logical to kids; they have to be original; and they have to be stylish to fit in with the home. We are certainly not interested in making things that look trendy. We want to create timeless pieces which can be passed down through the generations. We're a small business and we are dedicated to always putting our customers first.
HANDMADE WITH SUSTAINABLE WOOD
We don’t use MDF. All our furniture is made to last with sustainable wood and plywood, which is handcrafted to retain its ‘imperfections’. The ecological water lacquer we use allows the wood’s natural beauty to shine through. The way we make our products gives them a different look to the mass-produced alternatives that roll off the production line. You can see all the beautiful knots and grain patterns that give real wood its charm.
GOOD FOR THE PLANET
Like you, we want to look after the planet so being a green business is a no brainer for us. The way we produce Tidy Books products isn’t about showing off our green credentials – it’s about common sense. Not long after starting the business we also discovered that the commonly used acrylic lacquer we coated our furniture with gave off Volatile Organic Compounds that are bad for the environment and can be harmful to health. We immediately changed to water lacquer, a safer alternative. Using water lacquer is part of our commitment to design and make products that look great and are safe for you and the planet. Our products are a lasting investment for your family, and can be passed on. When you buy Tidy Books, you won't be adding to landfill.
SUPPORT A CHILDRENS CHARITY
Every purchase you make gets more kids reading. We’ve partnered with national literacy charity, Coram Beanstalk to donate a percentage of every Tidy Books sale, and give the gift of reading to more children. Coram Beanstalk places volunteers in schools to read one to one with children who are struggling with their reading. I designed the Bunk Bed Buddy with lipped shelves to hold her drink, book and alarm clock securely, meaning no more spills and falls. The award winning original design by a mum for her children.

My background as a violin maker means I am passionate about how products are made. We could have coated them with a solvent based acrylic, but I made an ethical choice. Water lacquer shows the natural imperfections in the wood, and is better for the planet and your kids.
