Commonly referred to as Earth Stars, these bromeliads are native to Brazil, where they grow on the forest floors as terrestrials (this means they grow in soil, unlike the bromeliad air plants we often see ornamentally grown on bark).
The Cryptanthus has stunning rich pink, low-growing, arching leaves which form a rosette-shaped arrangement, worthy or it's common name, The Earth Star! This is a slow-growing plant and therefore the perfect candidate for terrariums!
Cryptanthus do well in bright, indirect light, avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves. These can be thirsty plants so regular watering is recommended, although they will not like their roots sitting in water. Try and avoid watering the rosette, this can become the ideal environment for mould and fungal diseases. Don't forget, these beautiful plants come from the forests of Brazil and therefore love humidity! They will love you if you mist them daily!
