Product description

Philodendron Pink Princess Common Names: Pink Princess Philodendron Full Botanical Name: Philodendron erubescens ‘Pink Princess’ Country and/or Region of Origin: Native to the rainforests of Colombia
Overview The Philodendron Pink Princess is one of the most sought-after houseplants in the world—and for good reason. With deep burgundy-green leaves splashed with bright bubblegum pink variegation, each leaf is a one-of-a-kind work of art. This rare and regal climbing philodendron adds dramatic colour and tropical flair to any plant collection. While a bit more attention-seeking than your average green foliage plant, its stunning beauty makes the effort well worth it.
Growing Conditions in Native Habitat In the wild, Philodendron erubescens climbs trees in tropical, humid forests, growing under the dappled light of the jungle canopy.
Care Guide Light: Needs bright, indirect light to maintain its vivid pink variegation. Too little light leads to more green, while too much direct sun can burn the leaves. Ideal Room: Thrives in well-lit living rooms or offices, especially near east- or north-facing windows. Feeding: Feed every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Use a fertilizer with calcium and magnesium for optimal variegation. Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Misting or using a humidifier will help maintain healthy foliage and promote leaf growth. Ideal Temperature: Enjoys warmth between 65–80°F (18–27°C). Avoid drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Be cautious not to overwater—yellowing leaves are often a sign of excess moisture.
Pet/Child Safe: Toxic if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets and small children due to calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation.
Soil Type: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix—combine indoor potting soil with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or peat.
Propagation: Propagated via stem cuttings with at least one node. Cuttings can be rooted in water, sphagnum moss, or soil.
Eventual Height and Spread: Can grow 2–4 feet (60–120 cm) tall indoors with proper care and support; spread depends on growth habit and pruning.
Growth Rate: Moderate grower. Growth may slow in low light or during winter months. Regular feeding and light pruning help maintain lushness.
Pests and Treatment: May attract mealybugs, aphids, or spider mites. Wipe leaves regularly and treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when roots become pot-bound. Spring is the best time to repot.
Pruning: Prune to control leggy growth or to encourage a fuller appearance. Always cut just above a node using clean shears.
Air Purification: Like many philodendrons, Pink Princess helps purify indoor air, removing toxins such as formaldehyde and boosting overall air quality.
Folklore: While not rooted in ancient lore, the Pink Princess has become a symbol of luxury, individuality, and plant collector status—often referred to as a “unicorn plant” due to its rarity and striking appearance.
