David Porter has had a life long interest in military history, particularly armoured warfare and AFV technology. Since leaving the British Military of Defence in 2006 after 29 years' service and has worked on a number of research projects.

Soviet Tank Units 1939-45 charts the development of the Soviet tank arm from the pre-war years, through early combat operations in the Far East and Finland and ending with the Red Army's successful assault on Berlin in April 1945.
