Suttons Runner Bean Seeds Scarlet Emperor are a very early cropping variety and can be grown on supports or as a ground bean. A good source of vitamin C, folate and iron plus fibre – some vitamins can be lost so cook for minimum time only! Recommended for freezing, so you can enjoy their taste year-round. For its profuse crop of large tender pods, this is beyond question one of the best types of runner bean. Both in hot and dry, and also in cold and wet seasons, it has yielded remarkable results, and we can recommend it with confidence. Sow bean seeds in April under glass or cloches, or outdoors in May and June. Plant out in June. Harvest July to mid-October. These prolific, decorative plants thrive in well cultivated soils containing plenty of humus. Water regularly in dry periods and youâ€ll be rewarded by a heavy crop of delicious, tender young beans for table and freezing. (12-16 weeks maturity.)
