The rope is easily adjustable to achieve the perfect length by re-tying a knot at the end of the handle. As your skills improve, you may want to shorten the rope slightly. The effective extra thickness of the rope through the air increases aerodynamic drag, giving the beaded ropes a comfortable but heavier feel, allowing increased positive feedback as the ropes strike the ground. The sound of the ropes skimming the ground below the skippers' feet is a useful timing aid.
