Scientific Name
Epipremnum aureum ‘Neon’ (golden Epipremnum, referring to its vibrant foliage)
Common Name
Neon Pothos, Golden Pothos ‘Neon’
Origin
Native to the Solomon Islands and other parts of Southeast Asia
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vivid neon colour. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may lose some vibrancy. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
Allow the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains away. Overwatering can cause root rot, while prolonged dryness may lead to leaf curling and browning.
Humidity
Adapts well to average household humidity but thrives in higher humidity (50–70%). If the air is particularly dry, mist occasionally or use a pebble tray to boost moisture levels.
Soil
Grows best in a well-draining, airy potting mix. A blend of peat, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal. Repot every 2–3 years or when roots become crowded.
Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter to every 8–10 weeks.
Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–27°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 12°C and protect from cold drafts.
Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.
Sprouts Top Tips
To maintain a bushy, compact shape, trim leggy vines occasionally. Cuttings can be easily propagated in water or soil to grow new plants.
Extras
Epipremnum aureum ‘Neon’ is an excellent choice for hanging baskets, trailing from shelves, or climbing on a moss pole for larger leaf development.
