Aquarium Biological Filter Media

This pumice-based bio media offers effective bio-filtration for the removal of nitrogenous waste. It supports the growth of both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. Being completely inert, it will not break down over time, so it doesn’t need to be replaced.

Biomedia can also be used underneath aquasoil as a base layer to build height in the back of the aquarium which can be more cost effective than using multiple bags of soil.

How Much Bio Media Do I Need?

This lightweight, porous volcanic rock offers a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise. These bacteria are essential for breaking down harmful ammonia and nitrites, converting them into less toxic nitrates, which helps maintain a stable and balanced ecosystem in your aquarium.

The porous nature of pumice stone allows for excellent water flow, ensuring that water passes through the material efficiently and maximises contact with the beneficial bacteria. This enhances the overall filtration process, leading to improved water quality and clarity.

Additionally, pumice stone is chemically inert, meaning it will not leach harmful substances into the water, making it safe for all types of aquatic life.
