Ornamental grasses are currently enjoying incredible popularity as both seasoned and novice gardeners alike discover the ever-increasing range of varieties available, and Imperata 'Red Baron', better known as Blood Grass, has to be one of the most striking!
Blood Grasses slowly form large clumps and look amazing when planted en masse with dazzling red blades that provide contrasts in colour and texture with any surrounding greenery. Clusters of fluffy, silvery flowers appear from June to August, adding yet more visual interest to the garden display. Try them dotted around a gravel or rock garden or in a pot so that you can get up close and admire them in full.
See the very best colouring by growing these in full sun, although they will be just as fine in partial shade. As deciduous grasses, they will die back in winter and should be cut back to ground level in February, but don't worry, you'll see brand new shoots in March, heralding the arrival of spring and a new season of amazing colour!
Supplied as a set of three established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant out, growing to a height of 50cm and spread of 30cm.
