Ophiopogon, despite being called 'grasses', are actually strappy leaved perennials. This variety is one of the very few so called 'black' plants that produce truly black foliage - year-round matt black backdrops, setting off the bright and vibrant colours of your other flowering plants.

They are very slow spreading, carpet-forming plants, and can remain undisturbed for years, slowly forming into good-sized clumps. You can then chop them up with a spade in spring and create many more plants to grow yourself or share with a loved one.

Superb when interplanted with small perennials, use them as groundcover, either in shade or sun, drought or wet - they are also great in modern mixed container plantings. Easy to grow and fully hardy, the evergreen colour acts as a fabulous foil for bright gold, orange and lime-shaded flowers.
