Chaga grows mainly on the bark of birch trees in parts of Asia, Northern Canada, Alaska and Siberia and after centuries of use, is becoming more and more popular in the west as a result of its possible health benefits. There is still much research to do but early signs are encouraging.
Chaga is known for it’s high anti-oxidant content and is taken to help with immune system support and could also help deal with inflammation.
It is also possible that Chaga could help reduce sugar levels although more research is needed to confirm this in humans.
Lastly, lab studies have indicated that Chaga could help lower cholesterol, but again, more reseach is needed to confirm this.
A note of caution. Chaga could pose risks for those on blood thinners (it could inhibit the formation of blood clots) and also those using insulin as a result of its possible bearing on blood sugar levels.
