Kumquat - Tangy Citrus Fruits - My Exotic Fruit

In appearance, kumquats are comparable to small, oval oranges - indeed, their name comes from the Cantonese term 'kam kwat', which translates to 'golden orange'!

The skin of these olive-sized fruits is thin, glossy, and taut. Beneath the textured, bright orange-coloured peel are 3-6 segments of tender orange flesh, which contain a few small creamish/white seeds. The juicy flesh will wow your tastebuds with its sharp flavour.

However, kumquats stand out amongst other citrus varieties in that the entire fruit is edible, including the peel and the seeds! In fact, the peel boasts a divinely sweet and almost floral flavour, so you experience a fantastic taste sensation of zesty sweetness when you eat kumquats whole!

Although they are often simply eaten fresh out of hand, kumquats' combination of sweet and sour notes means they are perfect for use in both sweet and savoury dishes. Kumquats are popularly utilised in preserves, sauces, and salsas, and we'd especially recommend using them to make scrumptious cakes, pies, and even ice cream! Kumquats are also favoured by bartenders as aromatic edible garnishes and as a bright, fruity flavouring for cocktails and mocktails.
