Rods work, everything else gimmicky just use a trusted knife. You are better off getting more rods without the accessories because they do not work.

Tried it with a potato and it just does not work. When you turn it, it makes a hole in the middle but doesn’t cut a spiral in the potato and it should

It doesn’t work that well or may be need to practice more. But we wasted a lot of potatoes trying to achieve the spiral. It’s quite difficult to do with plastic and the metal screws have already bent.
