Jackson's Vine Charcoal is soft, crumbly and easily erased. They have a hardness that varies between soft and medium and are approximately 150mm long and 3-5mm in diameter. Vine Charcoal is often lumped together with willow charcoal, as it has similar properties, however it is made from the burning of grape vines and contains no binding agents. This means both that it can be erased easily and that it is prone to breakage if not carefully handled. Vine charcoal is soft and powdery making it perfect for quick expressive marks but more difficult to use for detailed work, unless it is frequently sharpened with sandpaper.
